Match Report
Lymm 1st xl:- 9 Sale 3rd xl :- 0
Lymm started the day in a buoyant mood, hoping to put the demons of the Hawarden High pitch, where they laid the lines like sleeping Policemen, far behind them. Padgate was the venue and the pitch was in great condition. Due to no second team game Lymm fielded a strong side that all arrived on time bar Phil and Andy. Phil spent the night in Crewe train station, waiting for a train which never came, oblivious to the fact they have timetables on the walls. The cheeky chento eventually arrived and the game got under way. Lymm played some good hockey as usual and scored some good team goals, but there were a few lapses in concentration and Lymm tried to do too much too quickly in the first 20 minutes. The deadlock was eventually broken by an excellent run by Dave Antonelli and the goals continued to be scored throughout the 70 minutes. I can’t remember the order but the following people scored, Ben got three, Andy Hunt two, Dave Antonelli two, Ross Arrowsmith and Andrew scrowcroft one a piece. Sale were a decent side and the result showed Lymm’s quality but there’s always room for improvement but the everyone always had one eye on the cup game in two weeks time.
Back to the club house, the Sale convoy arriving some time later in the evening after following a milk float over the Thelwall Viaduct. Lymm weren’t the force in the bar that they are on the pitch with not enough people coming back although those who did had the pleasure of seeing my bruised arse. Lymm’s democratic system of voting for man of the match was brought into disrepute by Phil, who fixed the votes, by default Man of the Match went to Dave Antonelli who’s skill was impressive as always, ran a close second by tom Jones who also played really well, but it’s not unusual. Dick of the day had to go to Phil for several reasons, firstly the train thing, secondly the bandana which he was shamed out of wearing, thirdly he brought hair putty instead of gel and fourthly he tried to rig the voting. Alderley Edge 4’s next week and then the big one against Knutsford after that before the mid-season break, let’s all hope Lymm get two more wins in the bag and can have a very merry Christmas!.
